New results and contributions of the thesis study:
+ Increased serum NT-proBNP level in Graves’ patients with thyroid hormone toxicity is considered an additional valuable biomarker to assess cardiovascular status.
+ Increased serum NT-proBNP level is significantly associated with thyroid enlargement, increased heart rate, the presence of arrhythmias, increases in cardiac output and systolic pulmonary artery pressure. Serum NT-proBNP levels were significantly positively associated with thyroid hormone levels (FT3, FT4) and echocardiographic indices such as the diameter of the left atrium, right ventricle, and left ventricle. These clinically relevant associations support NT-proBNP as a prognostic factor in the degree of cardiac injury in Graves’ patients.
+ The study has determined the predictive value of atrial fibrillation, increased systolic pulmonary arterial pressure at > 40 mmHg with cut-off values of NT-proBNP concentration.
+ In patients who achieved euthyroidism after treatment, the NT-proBNP concentration decreased significantly compared to before treatment, equivalent to the NT-proBNP concentration of the control group, and significantly positively associated with FT3, FT4 levels. The remission of NT-proBNP in euthyroidism patients is not only a stable manifestation of the disease but also a biomarker for the reversal of cardiovascular changes induced by thyroid hormone toxicity, which can be used as one of the indicators to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment of Graves disease.
